Sustainability

Our engagement with sustainability. As a North American company designing and delivering lighting solutions, sustainability is an important part of our business model. When it comes to sustainability we care about our industry and the way we develop and design our products. While we support sustainability initiatives such as the use of industry- wide emissions metrics, we remain engaged in the pursuit of our own goals by continuously improving our sourcing, our processes and our products.

Creating a Cradle-To-Cradle Life Cycle

We build in sustainability with lean design and manufacturing practices that minimize waste and pollution. Our products are made and assembled in North America, lowering transportation costs and minimizing our carbon footprint. Because they are made in a sustainable manner from recycled aluminum, recycled steel, RoHS-free LEDs and Red-List-free lenses and coatings, Axis Lighting luminaires have a favorable cradle-to-cradle life cycle. At the end of their useful life, they can be easily disassembled and separated for recycling.

Our Goals Help Our Customers Meet Their Goals

At Axis, we continue to innovate in our solutions, our products and our process. Our main goal is to help architects, lighting designers and building owners breathe life into their lighting projects, at the same time being able to meet certain sustainability requirements. As a result, we take steps to responsibly source from suppliers that meet sustainability standards to help improve a product's environmental footprint throughout its life cycle, from design to disposal. We achieve this in a number of ways:

Materials recycling procedures in place at our production facility, notably for aluminum, lensing, wiring, cardboard and plastics, as well as recycling of all waste not directly related to production.

Recycling_200x200.jpg

Use of recycled materials in luminaire production, with flat-rolled steel incorporating recycled content, aluminum extrusions made from 13% to 38% recycled aluminum and SoftZone® acoustic panels containing at least 40% recycled PET plastic.

voc-free.jpg

Finishes free of VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds) to ensure safer environments.

RoHS compliance covering LED chips, boards and drivers.

Red-list-free_200x200.png

Red-List-free luminaire materials in compliance with the Living Building Challenge, including lenses and powder coatings.

halogen-free_300.jpg

Halogen-free wiring (Enviro-WireTM) used in our luminaires is recyclable, PVC-free and Cradle-to-Cradle Silver Certified by MBDC.

There's More to Sustainability Than Meets The Eye

As a forward-thinking organization that demonstrates flexibility and support for our customers' environmental and sustainability concerns, we are always attentive to their needs and those of the community.

LEED_200x200.jpg

LEED® points can be earned through Axis product compliance (recycled steel and aluminum content), daylighting features (integrated controls) and lighting performance (power densities in line with ASHRAE 90.1-2016) that contribute to LEED certification by meeting the strictest criteria in key categories of sustainable building projects.

sustainability-connected-technologies_200x200.png

Expertise with connected technologies and close partnerships with many controls manufacturers offer advanced sustainability options, as Axis brings deep knowledge of connected lighting (PoE, wireless, VLC, LiFi) and next-generation platforms to assist in decision‐making and ensure controls are deployed and installed properly.

WELL_200x200.jpg

WELLTM points available through circadian lighting options (BIOS SkyBlueTM) and high color rendering quality offered by many Axis luminaires.

Energy-efficient_200x200.jpg

Contribution to improved energy efficiency by continuously advancing the lighting effectiveness of our LED products and by offering personalized control of luminaires.
