What is StencilFlex^® ?

A framework for limitless lighting design

In spaces with exposed ceilings, the StencilFlex^® framework creates a suspended, scalable ceiling-like structure that supports layers of light, while maintaining an architectural look with the option of integrating highly appealing acoustic elements.

How to Build

StencilFlex line-voltage technology is value-engineered for easy installation, optimal lighting power densities and superior design freedom. As a result, StencilFlex facilitates project planning, budgeting, design, code compliance and implementation, including last-minute on-site modifications.
To help you develop and specify the StencilFlex system you need, we suggest you follow these five steps aimed at assisting you along your creative journey. Also, you can rely on Axis for expert advice and support every step of the way.

Set Control Parameters

While StencilFlex provides flexibility in designing the framework, it also offers many options for controlling layers of light deployed throughout the framework.
To take full advantage of StencilFlex lighting control options, it’s important to understand voltage and dimming protocols. Those two variables have a significant impact on lighting control flexibility and granularity. In addition, they are essential to specifying your StencilFlex framework

Lighting control flexibility is about the ease with which you can change and program lighting zones (luminaire groupings).
Lighting control granularity is about the resolution of those lighting zones.

How to Build

Design Framework

This step is about capitalizing on the design flexibility of StencilFlex^® line-voltage frameworks. Segments that make up a framework act as a convenient, cost‑effective wireway to power and control layers of light where you need them.

Choose from a broad range of framework forms, including standard shapes and all‑new Curves.
Specify the voltage and dimming protocol you selected.
Use prewired segments and StencilFlex angled/curved segments to design your framework and develop a Reflected Ceiling Plan.
Deploy one or several frameworks throughout the space, according to your needs and your vision for the space
Plan for the integration of optional LattiX™ acoustic grids. as they are permanently attached to frameworks

How to Build

Select Lighting Elements

Layers of light are achieved by adding lighting inserts anywhere in the framework. There are two types of inserts: Linear inserts for direct and indirect general lighting and AxisTrak™ track inserts for Accent track lighting and Decorative track lighting

Choose from General Lighting inserts.
Choose from Accent and Decorative track lighting elements (mounting only on AxisTrak™ inserts).
For each lighting element, specify the voltage and dimming protocol you selected.
Position lighting elements in your Reflected Ceiling Plan.

How to Build

Define Lighting Control Zone

At this point, your Reflected Ceiling Plan (RCP) should include your framework(s) and lighting elements. Now that you have ensured that lighting levels meet project requirements, you can finalize your lighting control zones based on different factors, including local lighting power allowances, lighting tasks, type of space, etc.

Consult product spec sheets for wattage information (lighting power calculations).
Confirm lighting control zones on the RCP (e.g. dimming, occupancy detection, daylighting, emergency).
Upon reception of the updated RCP, Axis Lighting will locate your required power drops (their number will depend on the selected dimming protocol in Step 1).

Integrate Acoustic / Aesthetic Elements

While optional LattiX™ grids and horizontal panels can improve acoustics by enhancing speech clarity where needed, they can also add visual interest to StencilFlex frameworks.

Both LattiX acoustic grids and horizontal acoustic panels support the entire range of StencilFlex® layers of light, including general direct lighting, ambient indirect lighting, as well as accent and decorative track lighting.

Order SoftZone Samples

The more sound absorption or aesthetic appeal you need, the more LattiX grids or horizontal panels you use in the space.

Identify areas in the framework where you may require sound attenuation and/or colorful elements.
Choose from a range of acoustic grids/panels
LattiX acoustic grids attach to frameworks – Plan for their integration in Step 2.
Horizontal acoustic panels are easy to install – Add to StencilFlex layouts at any time.
